With the instances of coronavirus increasing rapidly in the state, the Maharashtra government has been rethinking imposing restrictions on the Mumbai locals which happens to be the lifeline of the common man in the city.

Maharashtra Health Minister Rajesh Tope speaking about the same stated, “Citizens should abide by the rules in view of the pandemic. Moreover, face masks and social distancing should be followed. However, if in the next couple of days, citizens are witnessed flouting the rules then tough decisions have to be taken, especially with regards to the Mumbai locals,”

After a gap of nearly 300 days, the general public was allowed to travel in the suburban railway system. However, the trains currently are permitted to ferry the general public in three-time slots: From the time of the start of the services till 7 am, from 12 noon to 4 pm, and from 9 pm till the time of the closure of services for the day.

Meanwhile, even though the spread of the disease has been contained to some extent, the risk of contracting the contagious illness remains high. So, even if the Mumbai locals have resumed for the general public, the instructions to use face masks, sanitisers, masks, social distancing have been given by the state government in order to safeguard the citizens.

On the other hand, earlier on Tuesday, March 23, Maharashtra again saw a slight rise in COVID-19 cases with 28,699 persons testing positive for the novel coronavirus which propelled the state's COVID-19 tally to 25,33,026. At present, there are 2,30,641 active cases in the state. With 13,165 COVID-19 patients discharged in the day, the number of recovered soared to 22,47,495.
