The Central Railway of Mumbai division has decided to install digital maps at 17 railway stations, similar to the one at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT).

This decision has been taken to improve the accessibility of passengers travelling by local trains on the suburban railway network. It will be a lot easier to find areas after alighting at the railway stations on the Central line.

The maps are placed near the entrance of the stations and have details of passenger amenities including foot overbridges, washroom, platforms, water vending machines, food stalls, booking offices, ATM machine placements, railway offices, lifts and escalators at the station.

After CSMT, the maps are being installed at Dadar, Lokmanya Tilak Terminus (LTT), Kurla, Ghatkopar, Thane, Kalyan, Masjid Bunder, Panvel, Byculla, Matunga, Sandhurst Road, Sion, Vikhroli, Bhandup, Mulund, Dombivli and Mankhurd railway stations.

The Central Railway has installed way-finding displays forming five large video walls of passenger information at CSMT. One such wall is installed at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus Mumbai suburban concourse towards the exit to Dr DN Road and Subway.

The installation is undertaken at zero cost to Railway as some of the time slots are reserved for the display of advertisement by ITW Consulting who has joined hands with Panasonic India.

This innovative project will help Central Railway to earn non-fare revenue in addition to cost-free installation, operation, and maintenance of these passenger amenity maps over a period of five years.

Central Railway chief PRO said that the installation work will be completed in a week. After that, it will be installed at other stations too in different phases.
