In an attempt to improve security for women commuters on the Versova-Andheri-Ghatkopar route, The Mumbai Metro One Private Limited (MMOPL) has tied up with the app developer, Eyewatch Technologies Pvt Ltd and has started a security app.

During an emergency, the woman passenger can seek help by alerting the control centre. One can record a video and audio and provide one’s exact location on the train so that immediate action can be taken. If the app is used outside the metro area, pre-decided guardians will be alerted who can also access the user's location through the app.

A similar initiative had been taken when the Western Railways tied up with Eyewatch to improve safety for women between Churchgate and Virar suburban railway stations. The app allowed the user to add up eight emergency contacts and send alerts to the RPF control centre by pressing the power buttons four times, notifying the user’s guardian through a call or text.

Although the app has registered 2,000 downloads, its success was not tested in the corridors as it has not received any calls so far. Officials have also proposed the facility for the Central Railway.
