The state cabinet is set to grant approval for the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) to secure 71.04 hectares of land located in Thane's Mogharpada. This land allocation is important for the construction of Metro 4.

This piece of land, officially known as Survey No. 30, will accommodate car sheds that will serve the Metro 4 and Metro 4A lines. These lines will connect various parts of Mumbai and MMR. They will enhance connectivity between Wadala and Kasarwadavli, Gaimukh, Shivaji Chowk to Mira Road, and Kalyan-Taloja.

Mumbai's Metro 4 is the longest metro line in the city, spanning over 32 kilometers. The absence of a separate car shed had become a big hindrance. This has resulted in delays. As of now, only 43% of the civil work has been completed, causing multiple missed deadlines.

Chief Minister Eknath Shinde intends to expedite the Metro 4 project due to its potential to connect Thane, the region that he represents, with Mumbai. The Commissioner of the MMRDA, along with his predecessor, S. V. R. Srinivas, have also been making efforts for this land allocation.

The land is located between Sanjay Gandhi National Park and Ghodbunder Road. It was formerly state property. It had been leased out for agricultural usage and had 167 lessees.

When plans for the auto shed were initially announced in June, several residents of Mogharpada raised objections and called for compensation. During a visit by revenue and MMRDA officers to the site before the monsoon, nearby villagers organised a protest in front of the Thane revenue office.

Local members of the Shiv Sena aligned with the villagers' concerns. They had sent a letter to the then-MMRDA Commissioner, SVR Srinivas, urging him to stop the process. Now, a compensation model similar to one followed by CIDCO is expected to provide landowners with approximately 22.5% of the developed property as compensation.
