The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has announced that it will set up multi-modal integration (MMI) with metro lines 2A and 7. These metro lines will get MMI first since the MMRDA is expected to commission it by the end of 2020. Other Metro lines in the city will follow suit subsequently.

Adding multi-modal integration to key metro stations will improve connectivity, particularly since most Metro lines are situated near commercial or residential areas. The authorities have already called tenders for contractors and project management consultants to assist with the multi-modal integration on Metro lines.

The MMI will be split into multiple packages for the contractors. The MMRDA said that packages 1 and 2 will be reserved for eight stations while the tender costs have been set at Rs 82.55 crore and Rs 98.15 crore respectively. Packages three and four will cover 7 stations at a tender cost of Rs 91.04 crore and Rs 85.12 crore.

“This will be a two-way communication as a connection to a mall or commercial complex is always better than coming down on the road. The point is to ensure convenience for commuters. It is for the betterment of the city that these public facilities are being made. The idea is to decongest the city by first and last-mile connectivity,” said MMRDA.

Commissioner RA Rajeev. He added that easy metro access to commercial complexes as well as malls will prove to be beneficial for the commuters as well as developers in the area. The MMRDA recently opened tenders for general consultants to assist with Metro Lines 5, 7A, and 9.
