Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Sunday along with Union Railway Minister Piyush Goyal inaugurated Monorail phase II

However, on the second day after the launch, the monorail connecting Wadala to Sant Gadge Chowk ran into problems and its services were halted for at least an hour. Nearly 400 to 500 passengers were evacuated from the monorail while the train went to Wadala depot for repairing the technical glitches. 

Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) informed that the floral strings – a part of decoration used during the inauguration event - got entangled creating a hurdle. Earlier, the monorail was closed for 10 months after the fire incident.

With the launch of phase II, the monorail network covers the area of 19.54 km while earlier the monorail covered only 8.26 km. The phase II of the monorail connects Chembur-Wadala-Jacob Circle.
