A motorman of a Borivali-bound slow local train fell unconscious in the motorman's cabin on Tuesday afternoon. The incident took place at Malad station at 3:30 pm. Due to this, the train was stopped for a long time.

Due to dizziness, motorman Manish Kumar was given immediate help and the train was stopped at the platform for 12 minutes. On Tuesday he was accompanied by the Chief Loco Inspector in the motorman's cabin. After first aid, he took a train to Borivali under the supervision of inspectors to avoid further delay. He was then admitted to Jagjivan Ram Railway Hospital, Mumbai Central.

Since the Loco Inspector was the supervisor of the motorman and had complete knowledge of controlling the local trains, there was no safety issue at the time of the incident. Officials said that local trains are fitted with an auxiliary warning system that alerts motormen in advance of upcoming signals through a display panel in the driving cab.

This requires extreme vigilance on the part of the motorman every four seconds, failing which the brakes are automatically applied. Officials said these warnings are usually given every 180mt (200 yards) before the signal.
