On Thursday, November 18, amidst the Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) worker’s strike, the body undertook the decision to bring in 500 private buses with drivers to be able to cater to travellers, highlighted reports.

On the other hand, narratives are circulating of an MSRTC employee allegedly committing suicide in Maharashtra’s Buldhana district. According to a report by the Times of India, a senior MSRTC official was quoted elaborating on how they have floated a tender to ask private bus contractors to give 500 buses urgently.

Adding that along with this, in the first phase, with drivers through a “wet lease” model will be roped in. These buses will offer their services to nearly one lakh commuters across various districts in Maharashtra.

If the MSRTC’s employee’s agitation continues, the body is expected to float more tenders to employ 500-1,000 more private buses with drivers in the arriving phases. Conversations with the unions are alleged to be inconclusive as of Thursday.

The treasury of the corporation continues to bear the brunt with losses worth nearly INR 200 crore owing to the strike. It has also been reported that Anil Parab, the Transport Minister, met Devendra Fadnavis, leader of the opposition to discuss many issues that also included the strike.
