Staff working with the Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC), on Friday, October 22, 2021, informed that they will be going on a strike due to several issues like the pending payments, dues and salaries, merger with the state government, as this has affected their employment.

As per the report published in the Free Press Journal, the strike will be held ahead of Diwali, on October 27, 2021, and this is expected to affect commuters depending on MSRTC for their travel. Officials have informed that passengers will face concern in rural parts of Maharashtra.

Comparing the service with other Indian states, the employees have stated that the MSRTC should be managed by the state government similar to UP, Gujarat, Himachal etc., as this will reduce the concerns for the staff members. Moreover, employees have demanded MSRTC offers the promised pay commission's benefit just like how the state government employees are given.

Similar protests were held in 2020 during Diwali when the staff complained of not receiving salaries of three months. Meanwhile, a Government Resolution was released on October 12, 2021, with regards to the employee salaries which stated that 93,000 MSRTC employees salary issues have been resolved.

On the other hand, MSRTC has also planned to convert 1000 buses to CNG vehicles. Once the decision of replacing a few buses is implemented, the government will be able to save a large sum, approximately INR 9 per km, and this would help the department significantly, the officials said.
