Almost 50 per cent of the employees of the Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) have resumed work. This comes nearly five months after they commenced their indefinite strike in November 2021, reported the Indian Express.

Based on the account, the MSRTC remarked that 81,683 employees were on the attendance sheet by the end of Thursday, April 14 of which 41,462 had returned. An official was quoted in the narrative claiming that since over 40,000 staffers have resumed operations it could signify the end of the protest.

It is hoped that with this, the MSRTC services will soon resume normalcy. Till Thursday, almost 16,000 trips were completed by the corporation which enabled the corporation to earn revenue of INR 13 crore from ticket issuance.

It has been reported that a large number of these staffers commenced their work in the aftermath of the Bombay High Court order that came last week.

The official further remarked in the narrative that those who resumed work were immediately reinstated without any action against them. Adding that those who resume before April 22 will be treated in the same manner. However, those who do not join by April 22 will face action.

In its order, the Bombay HC directed that the employees resume their duty by April 22. In addition to this, the judiciary asked the state government to not take any action against those on strike when they recommence duty. It also asked the government to withdraw the action taken previously.

Last year, a large number of MSRTC personnel went on strike for they demanded that the corporation be merged with the Maharashtra government to ensure that they are able to receive the advantages of being a government employee.
