Air ticket prices have surged by 25 to 30 percent on several domestic and international routes during the ongoing summer vacation season, increasing travel costs for tourists and passengers travelling to their hometowns.

According to reports, a sharp rise in passenger demand along with higher aviation turbine fuel (ATF) prices has led to a major increase in fares on popular travel routes. Tourist destinations such as Goa, Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Leh-Ladakh, and parts of South India have seen significant fare hikes.

Travel demand has increased due to school summer holidays, with more passengers opting for air travel for vacations and family visits. Industry experts said May remains one of the busiest travel periods for airlines in India.

Flight fares from Mumbai to major tourist destinations have risen steeply compared to regular rates. Tickets to Srinagar are currently priced around INR 20,000 to INR 21,000, against the usual INR 6,000 to INR 7,000. Mumbai-Leh fares have increased to nearly INR 24,000–INR 25,000, while tickets to Dehradun are being sold for around INR 21,000.

Similarly, Mumbai-Bagdogra fares have crossed INR 18,000, while flights to Dharamshala are reportedly costing between INR 30,000 and INR 31,000. Airfares to Goa have also climbed to nearly INR 10,000–INR 11,000 during the peak holiday period.

Industry officials said rising fuel prices, geopolitical tensions, and reduced flight availability have also contributed to the increase in fares. Earlier this year, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) approved fewer domestic flights for the 2026 summer schedule, leading to lower airline capacity on multiple routes.

Travel agencies said many passengers are now choosing budget airlines, shorter vacations, or alternate destinations to manage rising travel expenses.
