The Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) will be putting up an LED-based passenger information system at 300 bus stops throughout Mumbai, reported the Free Press Journal. According to the account, the authority is also looking to install nearly 40 green-bus stops that have plantations and fitness equipment.
Based on the narrative, the LED-based bus stop would entail scrollable information regarding bus routes as well as bus numbers. In addition to this, contractors will be able to advertise at these bus stops.
It has been reported that the bus stop will be linked with the GPS installed inside buses that will show the anticipated time of arrival of bus routes.
In other developments, the BEST is also looking to introduce an open garden on the rooftop of bus stops and fitness equipment on the sides of it. One such green bus stop has already been installed in Mumbai's Mahalaxmi area. The first green bus stop was inaugurated by Mumbai suburban guardian minister, Aaditya Thackeray.
On similar lines, 30 additional green stops are slated to be established across Mumbai. These will include 10 in the Worli area, 10 through the Andheri to Goregaon Link Road and 10 in other suburb areas.
The government has been working on a war footing to make the BEST a more environmentally driven platform.
