The Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation (MMRC) needs nine metro trains for the operation of the first phase of the Colaba-Bandra-Seepz Metro 3 route Aarey – BKC. So far, eight trains have entered Mumbai from Sri City in Andhra Pradesh. Now only one car is waiting and this car is also likely to enter the Aarey car shed in the next few days.

Metro 3 is under construction through MMRC. This route is 33.5 km and will be put into traffic service in two phases. Accordingly, MMRC is planning to put the first phase from BKC to Aarey into service in December 2023 and the second phase from BKC to Cuffe Parade in June 2024. Against this backdrop, MMRC has accelerated the construction of the first phase as well as the technical work. On the other hand, the work of bringing metro trains to Mumbai and testing them has also been speeded up. 31 trains are required for this route of 33.5 km. These trains are being built at Sri City in Andhra Pradesh through a private company.

Meanwhile, MMRC needs nine metro trains for the first phase from Aarey to BKC. Accordingly, MMRC informed that eight domestically made, automatic trains have entered Mumbai which have been completed so far. The first train entered Mumbai in August 2022 and in September 2023 the eighth train arrived in Mumbai. At the same time, the wait of Mumbaikars to travel in these new metro trains as well as the subway is likely to end in the next three to four months.
