The suburban railway system, which is currently ferrying people engaged in essential services, has taken action against people who have been travelling on the basis of fake identity cards.

As per reports, since the local trains permitted people to travel on the basis of an identity card and QR code pass, several people have deceived the officials with fake identifications. So far, action has been taken against 2,100 people travelling on local trains on the basis of fake identity cards of BMC employees, Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Protection Department, medical staff and other departments. This includes everyone from the merchant class to the household help. However, several people are travelling on the basis of fake identification at the moment as the cost of other vehicles is unaffordable amidst the pandemic.

Upon receiving the information, the Central Railway administration has stepped up in order to take action against the ones flouting the rules. As per reports, a total of 386 people were fined ₹1,07,530 on the suburban route on Wednesday, October 14. Till October 15, action has been taken against 2,943 passengers without tickets and fake identity cards.

On the other hand, the number of passengers travelling on local trains is gradually increasing. It is being said that the employees working in private companies may be allowed to travel in the local trains as well. However, there has been no official announcement regarding the same.
