Boat carrying more than 80 passengers capsizes near Mandwa

The marine police and other officials were informed about the incident which occured at around 10 am on Saturday. All the passengers onboard were rescued.

In a recently held incident, a boat (run by Ajanta company) carrying 80 passengers from Mandwa beach in Raigad, capsized after it hit a rock soon after it left the spot. Reports state that the incident occurred at 10 am and soon after it hit the rock patch, the boat started sinking as the water started to enter the boat.

Marine Police and other officials were immediately informed and a rescue operation was conducted. All the passengers on board have been rescued.

Meanwhile, Prashant Gharat, a policeman from Raigad District Police Force who was deployed on the boat for marine patrol, came to the aid of the passengers and carefully saved the lives of the passengers. No casualties were reported in the incident. All the rescued passengers and the Superintendent of Police Raigad have praised the swift move, decision-making ability and courage of the police personnel who worked on the operation

The ferry prices were recently increased by Mumbai Port Trust (MbPT), where the hike of up to 15 to 25 per cent was seen for services between Mumbai and Mandwa and of 10 to 15 per cent for services between Mumbai and Elephanta caves.
