The first phase of Mumbai Metro Line 3 (Aqua Line) is set to open in early 2024. This line will connect Aarey Colony and Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC). Ashwini Bhide, the managing director of Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation (MMRC), announced at a Mumbai Marathi Patrakar Sangh gathering that the first section of the Aarey-BKC route is expected to be open for usage by April 2024.

The construction related to Aarey Depot is likely to be completed by January of next year. After the completion of trials on phase 1, the required approvals from the authorities, including the Commissioner of Metro Railway Safety (CMRS), will be obtained.

Up until November 30, the work on the Aarey-BKC line was 93.4% complete. This includes 96.6% of the work on the metro stations overall and 98.9% of the work on the stations and tunnels.

Of the 3.8 km of road that have been blocked on the Aarey-BKC route, 1.2 km have been reopened as of December 24. Of the 8.5 km of route that is blocked off for Metro-3 construction, 1.3 km of the BKC-Cuffe Parade portion has already been restored.

The first long-distance path spans 17 km and runs from MIDC to Vidyanagari Metro station and back to SEEPZ. Trials have already been successfully completed by MMRC authorities. According to sources, further trials will be conducted at higher speeds in the next few months.

For phase 1 operations, the MMRC already has nine metro rakes in its fleet. Seven rakes would be used every day to transport people, with one rake each for maintenance and standby.

The BKC-Colaba Metro-3 line's phase-2 construction is likely to be completed by October 2024. It is anticipated that 17 lakh passengers will use the entire route each day.
