Mumbai’s first metro (Blue Line) connecting Versova, Andheri and Ghatkopar recently recorded a daily passenger footfall of over 4 lakhs nearly after three years.

It is pertinent to note that this came after the Metro Line 2A and 7 were thrown open fully for public last week.

For the first time since COVID-19 pandemic, on January 24, Blue Line 1 has crossed the 4 lakh-mark.

Between January 16 and 23, 27.63 lakh passengers travelled in the metro.

With this, the Mumbai Metro One Private Limited (MMOPL) has recorded a rise of 15,000 passenger footfall per day when compared to the last week.

They also noted that major increases in numbers are at the stations that are now connected with newly launched Metro Lines 2A & 7.

DN Nagar station with ridership of 8,000 and WEH station with ridership of 6,000 are amongst the top, MMOPL officials added.

Meanwhile, in only two days since their inauguration, Phase 2 of Line 2A and 7 of the Mumbai metro have already recorded a combined ridership of more the 1 lakh. Both lines have crossed the passenger footfall of 1.25 lakhs, the Maha Mumbai Operation Corporation Limited (MMOCL) said in a Tweet.

Moreover, the interchange facility at Gundavali station that connects Metro line 7 to Metro line 1 through a FOB (foot over bridge) is also a big hit among commuters who do not have to brave traffic anymore to change metro lines.

The two metro lines are expected to cut down vehicular traffic by 25% besides reducing crowd in the suburban local trains.
