The Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) undertaking has decided to expand its digital footprint by offering comparable ticketing choices for digital buses and Metro.

The transport body is introducing a new payment option, the Paytm transit card, which will operate on Metro lines and BEST buses, and a new electric AC double decker bus that is entirely digital and does not issue paper tickets.

The Paytm transit card, which will be introduced in March, is aiming to provide commuters with a convenient and easily monitorable way to pay for their rides on Mumbai Metro services and BEST buses. The card is directly connected to the Paytm Wallet, making all recharges and transactions online.

For those unversed, the National Common Mobility Card (NCMC) is already available for commuters to use on BEST buses. The NCMC is an interoperable physical mobility card that supports the government's One Nation, One Card project. Commuters can use the NCMC card to pay for parking and at toll booths.

Commuters on BEST buses can also use the Chalo app to live-track buses and reserve seats on deluxe buses.

In addition to the new payment options, the BEST's much-awaited new AC double decker electric bus was recently made available for public use. However, the new electric double decker bus reportedly has design flaws that need to be enhanced according to commuters.
