According to reports, Mumbai RTOs now have an aggregate of seven car driving simulators to assist driving license candidates practice on the machine in order to improve their skills prior to appearing for the ground test. These simulators are slated to be given for free to those appearing for the final driving tests.

Based on narratives, RTOs at Tardeo, Wadala and Andheri have two simulators each. On the other hand, the Borivali RTO has received one. It has been reported that the said simulators cost nearly INR 5 lakh. A report by the Times of India remarks that Maharashtra has purchased an aggregate of 65 such machines for 50 RTOs across the state at an expense of nearly INR 3.30 crore.

The report quoted state transport commissioner Avinash Dhakne who elaborated on how so far they have installed 35 stimulators at RTOs across Maharashtra. Adding that the purpose of these machines is to inculcate "safe" driving skills amongst those appearing for the exam.

Dhakne went on to elucidate that those who appear for the final driving test can use these machines to assess how they are as drivers after having received a learner's license and undergoing the driving school training.
