After a full day of will they won't day, Maharashtra has announced that from May 25, they will allow 25 domestic flights to take off and land in Mumbai.

Nawab Mailk's statement in this Regards reads, "Maharashtra govt has agreed to allow 25 take offs and 25 landings everyday for domestic flights from Mumbai. This number will be increased gradually. State govt will issue details and guidelines in this regard soon."

So far, there is no clarity on which 25 flights will be given a go ahead and which ones will have to settle to fly another day!

Earlier in the week, Civil Aviation Minister Hardeep Singh Puri had announced the resumption of domestic flights from May 25. Following this airlines had started to take booking across various segments.

Thousands of passengers across the country had booked flight tickets in the last week for travel beyond May 25. With just a few hours for their flights departure time most of them are still confused and perplexed.

Mumbai Live reached out to a Maharashtra-based travel portal, WTFares about the current situation. Answering the same, Varun Sarda, co-founder, WTFares said, “There is a lot of confusion in regards to which flights will take off tomorrow. There was no rush to start domestic travel. Both the center and the state should have planned this better, taken a couple of days to figure finer details before starting the bookings.”

When asked how has the sentiments been and if people were keen to get fly again, Varun said, “Most people still are apprehensive to fly. With businesses shut and most people continuing to work from home, it was mainly people who are wanting to return to their home city that we’re keen to travel. For this week, it was only for 25th and 26th that we saw sizable booking”.

All scheduled domestic flights had been suspended in India since March 25 as Narendra Modi government had imposed a lockdown to contain the spread of novel coronavirus pandemic.
