Mumbaikar's commute is going to get even smoother and more efficient. The Mumbai Railway Development Corporation (MRVC) is finally ready to invite tenders for the purchase of 238 new AC local suburban trains for Mumbai. The project is part of the Mumbai Urban Transport Project – jointly funded by the Centre and the state.
In the state, permission has been given for construction of 238 AC local roads and construction of new local roads of 80 km length. INR 100 crores will be immediately given to the Mumbai Railway Development Corporation for the MUTP-3A project set. Such instructions have been given by Maharashtra’s Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis.
INR 33,690 crore worth MUTP-3A project package includes 10 railway projects. Currently operating AC trains are partially vestibular, that means they are divided into two parts of six compartments each. The new local trains will be fully vestibular, with equipment either on the roof or slung below, with proper rain/water protection.
