A few days ago, the BEST hiked their fares which was a setback to the commuters and then, a rise in diesel prices just added to the pressure. However, Mumbaikars will now have to shell out more money for an auto/taxi ride.
We want a hike of ₹2 in auto-rickshaw fare and ₹3 in taxi fares. We had submitted our proposal to the transport department who have given us a green signal for the hike,” A L Quadros, Taxi Union Leader.
If the fares go up, the minimum auto fare could rise from ₹18 to ₹20 while Kaali Peeli taxi fare could go up from ₹22 to ₹24. However, the final call will be that of Mumbai Metropolitan Region Transport Authority (MMRTA). Meanwhile, Mumbai Grahak Panchayat — which represents the commuters — has demanded that the fare hike should be based on the Khatua committee report’s recommendations.
Taximen's Union has demanded that MMRTA should revise auto and taxi fares by hiking it by ₹2.
