Political leaders from BJP, Shiv Sena and Congress have demanded change in names of four Monorail stations. Wadala Bridge Monorail station is suggested to be renamed as Nana Fadnavis and Antop Hill and Dadar East Monorail station can be named as Shaikh Mishri and Vitthal Mandir station respectively.
The second phase of Monorail will commence from Saturday and names of four Monorail stations may be changed in the coming days. The four Monorail station include GTB Nagar, Wadala Bridge, Antop Hill and Dadar east for which change in name has been demanded by several political parties and resident associations.
Notably, political leaders from BJP, Shiv Sena and Congress had demanded change in names of these four Monorail stations.
Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) official said that considering the demand in changes of names, a committee has been formed by Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis who is also chairman of MMRDA and the committee has had two meetings but it is yet to submit its report on the demand for change in names. If the demand is accepted, names for four Monorail stations will be changed.
In case of GTB Nagar Monorail station near Sion Koliwada, there are three demands - BJP State Finance Minister Sudhir Mungantiwar cited demands from the locals and suggested the name as ‘Trimurti Shiv’ whereas Shiv Sena MP Rahul Shewale suggested ‘Hutatma Karuppaiya Devendra’ who was a part of Samyukta Maharashtra Movement. Congress leader Radhakrishna Vikhe Patil has suggested it to be Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) residential colony citing it being demand from local party unit who represent the locals from the area.
