Central Railway starts the toy train service which connects Neral to Matheran on October 30 around 10:00 am. The Toy train was discontinued in 2016 due to many derailments. The service was thrown open by gangman Vikram Daroga, who flagged off the first train from Aman Lodge.
Residents were happy and celebrating by bursting firecrackers when they gathered to witness the inaugural run. Within 20 minutes, all seats were booked after bookings opened,” A.K.Singh, senior PRO, CR.
Singh said that the train will ply 12 times a day but on Wednesdays and Thursdays, the train will ply 11 times.
First class ticket - INR 300 (adults)/ Children – INR 180
Second class ticket - INR 45 (adults) / Children – INR 30
The toy train has got new air brakes and the braking system has been re-engineered by CR which will ensure a smooth travel. Initially, it used to run on the 21-km stretch between Neral to Matheran via Aman Lodge but the resumed service will run only on the three-km stretch between Aman Lodge and Matheran while repair works going on the tracks between Neral and Aman Lodge.
