In a significant development, the Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation Limited (MMRCL) flagged the trial run of its metro 3 project called Aqua Line in the city on Sunday, December 11.

This is the city’s first underground metro project, which connects Colaba-Bandra-SEEPZ areas.

After the videos of the trial run were widely shared on social media, Mumbaikars expressed their desire to experience the metro run first hand.

Meanwhile, sevreral users extended their gratitude towards the Mahashtra government, including CM Eknath Shinde and Deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis. Mumbai Metro MD Ashwini Bhide, who headed the project, was also thanked on social media.

As per Mumbai Metro Rail Corp Ltd (MMRCL), the underground Mumbai Metro Line-3 will have a number of positive effects such as environmental benefits and smart LED lighting systems with automatic light control features will reduce energy consumption.

Besides, the Metro Line-3 will lead to a reduction in vehicular trips by 6.65 lakh/day and reduced fuel consumption of 3.54 lakh litres/day The corridor will reduce 2.61 lakhs tonnes of CO2 emissions per annum. This will result into 35% reduction in traffic on road and in noise and air pollution.

The Aqualine of the Mumbai metro is 33.5 km-long underground metro line which will begin from Navy Nagar in South Mumbai and connect it to Aarey Depot in north-centre of the city. The metro line is expected to reduce load on local train between Bandra-Churchgate.

Apart from this, last month, the process of financial closure for line number 1 of the upcoming Navi Mumbai metro project was completed with the signing of an agreement between CIDCO and ICICI Bank for the INR 500 crore line of credit, a PTI report said. Navi Mumbai Metro Line 1 project is a three-coach metro train. The 11.1-km Belapur to Pendhar stretch of the project comprises 11 stations.
