Nagpur-Mumbai Duronto Express derails, No deaths reported

The Nagpur-Mumbai Duronto Express derailed near Asangaon in Maharashtra's Thane district around 6:40 am on Tuesday.

No casualties or injuries were reported, according to reports. Along with the engine, around nine coaches had derailed early morning when the passengers were sleeping.

Suburban local train services of the Central Railway in Mumbai and Thane were affected due to the derailment, hitting morning peak hours when already it has been pouring heavily in Mumbai for the last 24 hours. It took about two hours for the railway authorities to send help for the people who were stranded.

It is said that the cause of derailment could be landslide due to heavy rain in Kasara Ghats. It is also being said that due to the motorman’s quick thinking, many people escaped unhurt. Recently, railway accidents have grown in number and Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu has come under severe scrutiny.
