The changing of names of railway stations in Mumbai has given a stimulus to people who have now started demanding to name the JVLR Metro Station after Shiv Sena chief Balasaheb Thackeray.

The JVLR Metro Station is one of the stations on Metro-7 route that connects Dahisar East to Andheri East. As this station is in the proximity of BMC-run Hinduhriday Samrat Balasaheb Thackeray Trauma Care Centre, the demand to name this metro station after Balasaheb Thackeray has been raised with the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA). This demand has been made by none other than minister of state for housing, Ravindra Waikar, who represents the Jogeshwari Assembly segment.

Presently, the Metro-7 work is going on with full speed. There will be 14 stations on this metro route and one of these stations is close to the Trauma Care Centre. The MMRDA has proposed this metro station as the JVLR Metro Station.

The southern flyover connecting east and west suburbs on the Western Expressway has been named as Hinduhriday Samrat Balasaheb Thackeray Trauma Care Centre Flyover. On the same line, the metro station should also be named accordingly, said Waikar in his demand letter.

Meanwhile, Wadala residents have been demanding to rename the Dadar East station on the Monorail route as the Vitthal Mandir station. The MMRDA has flatly refused this demand. It would now be interesting to see whether the MMRDA authorities accept or reject Waikar’s demand.
When tried to contact the MMRDA officials, they could not be contacted.
