In the interests of the citizens and considering their travel convenience, Chief Minister Eknath Shinde instructed CIDCO to commence Metro services between Belapur to Pendhar line no. 1 on Friday, November 17, 2023 without conducting an official public programme. This decision will fulfil the dream of Navi Mumbaikars to travel in Navi Mumbai Metro.


“The much awaited Metro services will commence on Line no. 1 between Belapur to Pendhar from November 17, 2023. Hearty congratulations to all Navi Mumbaikars. The Government of Maharashtra had given instructions to CIDCO that Metro should be made operational at the earliest for the citizens of Navi Mumbai. Accordingly Metro services are being commenced between Belapur and Pendhar stations on Metro Line No. 1 without waiting for official public programme. Many congratulations to CIDCO and best wishes to Navi Mumbaikars. The metro services will provide better connectivity within Navi Mumbai. The Government aims to build a strong network of Metro lines in the entire Mumbai Metropolitan Region and CIDCO is implementing the Metro network very effectively in Navi Mumbai”, said Eknath Shinde, Chief Minister.


“From November 17, 2023, Metro services are being commenced between Belapur to Pendhar on Navi Mumbai Metro Line no. 1. This will fulfil the dream of Navi Mumbaikars to travel in the Metro. In the form of Metro, the people of Navi Mumbai will get an efficient option of fast, eco-friendly and comfortable travel. Rapidly developing Kharghar and Taloja nodes will get better connectivity along with CBD Belapur through Metro. Better and efficient public transport system of Metro will strengthen Navi Mumbai’s significance as an international city,” said Anil Diggikar, Vice Chairman and Managing Director, CIDCO.

The CIDCO is implementing Navi Mumbai Metro with a view to strengthen the public transport system in Navi Mumbai. A total of 4 elevated routes are being developed under this project and CIDCO undertook the development of the first line of 11.10 km i.e. from Belapur to Pendhar consisting of 11 metro stations along with Metro Depot at Taloja Panchanand.


The CIDCO appointed Maha Metra as Engineering Assistance for implementation of Line No. 1. All the trials like oscillation, electrical safety, emergency brake etc. for Line No. 1 were successfully conducted and certificates were also received from the concerned authorities. After that, CMRS(Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety) trial, which is the most important trial for the commercial operation of Metro, was successfully conducted and Line no. 1 received a certificate from CMRS to start passenger traffic resulting in the start of Metro services on this line from November 17, 2023.


Navi Mumbai Metro has state-of-the-art air-conditioned coaches along with entry and exit arrangements at both (north and south) sides of the Metro stations. Parking spaces at Metro stations, ramps for disabled passengers, footpaths (pavements), spaces for auto rickshaws, provision of diesel generators (DG) with UPS for uninterrupted power supply, passenger announcement system on concourses and platforms, CCTV, provision of special toilets at concourse level for disabled persons, shops in concourse area for commercial purpose is a key feature of the Navi Mumbai Metro project.


This Metro service will commence from November 17, 2023 between Pendhar to Belapur Terminal and Belapur Terminal to Pendhar at 3.00 PM and last round at 10.00 PM. From November 18, 2023 onwards, the first Metro will run between Pendhar to Belapur Terminal and Belapur Terminal to Pendhar at 06.00 am and the last round of metro from both sides will be at 10.00 pm. Metro will run at the frequency of every 15 minutes on Line No.1.


The fares of Metro tickets on this route will be as follows depending on the distance –

INR 10 for 0 to 2 KM, INR 15 for 2 to 4 KM, INR  20 for 4 to 6 KM, INR  25 for 6 to 8 KM, INR 30 for 8 to 10 KM & beyond 10 KM is INR 40.
