In order to introduce connectivity between Navi Mumbai and Uran, Railways is set to introduce a new 27-km rail line through the Harbour route. As the construction work for the same is ongoing, the 12 km rail route between Nerul and Kharkopar has been completed and so, Railways has decided to inaugurate the rail service on November 11 and open the route for passengers, November 12 onwards.
As per the reports, the route will witness 40 train journeys daily between the above mentioned route.
The rail administration had introduced the project and made the decision in 1997, but the project has seen inception after 21 years and finally, the service will begin in 2018 as 12 km route of Nerul-Kharkopar of the total 27 km route has been completed.
The platform has been constructed by the City and Industrial Development Corporation (CIDCO) and accordingly, a test was conducted 15 days ago. However, it was discovered that the gap between the railway platform and train was very less due to which, the train brushed through the railway platform. Despite this, the rail service has been initiated between Nerul and Kharkopar.
Meanwhile, the rail route will be left open for public use November 12 onwards and it will be inaugurated by Railway Minister Piyush Goyal.
