Navi Mumbai Municipal Transport Undertaking (NMMT) on Monday, February 12, announced that Navi Mumbai residents can soon use public transport services from Mumbai Trans Harbor Link (MTHL) to Mumbai.

At least four services are planned and two air-conditioned (AC) electric buses will run through the bridge.

Residents who have been waiting for public transport for a long time expressed their excitement at the Atal Setu bridge, inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on January 12.

For the first service, bus number 115 is scheduled to carry passengers from Nerul to Mantralaya covering Kharkopar belt and Ulwe.

An NMMT official said that bus number 115 is an air-conditioned service. Keeping in mind the demand from residents, the service will now start from Nerul and take the route via MTHL.

The administration said the civic body has decided to keep the existing fare of 90 for the 52-km journey from Nerul to Mantralaya. “However, no fare revision is proposed, we will take the currently applicable fare in each AC bus,” officials added.

However, uncertainty remains regarding toll charges, as officials pointed out that it is not clear whether public transport services will have to pay heavy toll like private buses or whether they will get concession or exemption in toll charges.
