The 75th meeting of the Maharashtra Maritime Board chaired by Fisheries and Ports Development Minister Aslam Shaikh, approved a budget of INR 473.96 crores for the year 2021-22 in order to implement a strict passenger insurance policy for transporting passengers to small ports in the state.

According to sources, the meeting was held at the Sahyadri Guest House. Moreover, the meeting was attended by Minister of State for Port Development Abdul Sattar, Additional Chief Secretary and Port Development Department Shri Dr Ashish Kumar Singh, Chief Executive Officer and Member Secretary of the Board Amit Saini, Invited Member Indian Navy Representative, Coast Guard Representative Commandant etc.

Meanwhile, a travel insurance policy has been implemented under the Maritime Board for small ports as well as for boats and tourists travelling on the various waterways for the benefit of water sports. Accordingly, every shipowner is required to have a passenger insurance policy of about INR 5 lakhs. This policy will be important with regards to financial assistance in case of an accident or mishap while transporting on waterways.

On the other hand, the Maharashtra Maritime Board had earlier relocated the tetrapod rocks from Haji Ali to the existing promenade at Bandra Bandstand and Carter Road. As per reports, in order to carry out the reclamation work for the ongoing Mumbai Coastal Road Project, the tetrapods had to be removed from the seashores of south Mumbai. Back in February, the authorities had further floated a proposal to the Maharashtra Coastal Zone Management Authority (MCZMA) for relocating the tetrapods at the existing carter road promenade.
