On Monday, June 8, 2020, Mumbai witnessed heavy traffic jams. The western expressway of Mumbai saw heavy traffic jams from early morning. The area about 4 to 5 kilometres was heavily packed.

The government had earlier allowed the resumption of work in private workplaces with 10 per cent of the staff. At the same time, the government offices are to function with 15 per cent of the staff. This has brought the people on the streets, most with their private vehicles, trying to get to work like it is a regular workday. Although two-wheelers are not allowed to take pillion riders, several two-wheelers were observed travelling with a pillion.

According to the "Mission Begin Again" initiated by the Government of Maharashtra, many workplaces have begun work with 10 per cent employees from Monday. In view of this, the Best Administration has approved transportation for office goers from Monday as well. Shop goers can also travel on the buses of Best. As the local train of Mumbai remains closed, BEST has decided to run some buses outside Mumbai as well.

The buses are said to run from multiple routes like Virar, Nalasopara, Kalyan, Badlapur and Panvel. There are offices of many big, medium and small size corporations in Mumbai. In such places, individuals living outside the city of Mumbai also come for work. Therefore, so that people do not face any difficulty in reaching office, Best has decided to run buses outside Mumbai.

The Maharashtra government had earlier amended its lockdown relaxations under 'Mission Begin Again'. The amended order tightens the relaxations allowed for physical outdoor activities and exercises, the opening of shops, private offices re-opening, newspaper sales, educational institutions staff attendance, inter/intrastate movement. What remains to be seen is how Maharashtra reacts to the situation of coronavirus now after economic relaxations begin in the worst affected state of the country.
