Vehicle registrations in Mumbai have seen a rise during the Navratri period. Over 7,000 vehicles were registered across three key RTO offices in the city: Mumbai Central, Wadala, and Andheri. The vehicles included cars, bikes, taxis, and goods carriers.
This year, there was an increase of about 210 vehicles compared to last year’s Navratri, which recorded 6,902 registrations. Vehicles are commonly purchased during the festive season as part of the tradition of buying valuable items
From October 3 to 12, a total of 7,111 vehicles were registered at these three RTOs. A strong preference for bikes and scooters was noticed. From the total, 4,902 were two-wheelers, whereas 2,209 were four-wheelers registered.
RTO Location | Two-Wheelers Registered | Four-Wheelers Registered |
Mumbai Central | 1,921 | 823 |
Wadala | 1,510 | 654 |
Andheri | 1,471 | 732 |
Data from Borivali RTO was not available. Nearly 2,500 new cars were registered at Panvel RTO, and over 4,500 new cars were registered at Thane RTO.
These figures show a growing trend of people opting for personal vehicles. Commuters in Mumbai often face the issue of crowded local train and bus systems.
A similar trend was reported in other parts of the country. In Chandigarh, 1,861 vehicles were registered between October 3 and October 11, as reported by the city’s Registering and Licensing Authority (RLA). In Gujarat, the Federation of Automobile Dealers' Association (FADA) estimated that around 44,000 vehicles were delivered on Dussehra day alone.
