A detailed report regarding the same was shared by the department which mentioned that the railways has given a boost to the work and has accomplishes electrification of 81.51 per cent of the total Broad Gauge network

The Department of Railways, Government of India, in a recently shared statement, informed that the Indian Railways has embarked on an ambitious plan of electrification. As per reports, this development of complete Broad Gauge network in the country which  result in a better fuel energy usage and also help in increasing the throughput thereby reduced fuel expenditure and saving precious foreign exchange.

Data shared by the concerned department mentioned that during until September 2022 of FY 2022-23, Indian Railways has achieved 851 Route Kilometers (RKMs) as compared to 562 RKMs during the corresponding period of FY 2021-22. This was 51.4 per cent more than the previous year in comparison to the corresponding period. Moreover, the target set by the department for electrification during this FY is 6500 RKMs.

Sharing more details on Twitter, the department mentioned, "Marching Towards Mission 100% Electrification: Striving to become a Net Zero Carbon Emitter by 2030."

Furthermore, the record electrification of 6,366 RKMs was achieved in Indian Railways’ history during 2021-22, and officials called this a note-worthy achievement. Earlier, the highest electrification was 6,015 RKM during 2020-21, and as of September 30, 2022, out of 53,098 out of 65,141 RKM of BG network have been electrified which accounts to 81.51 per cent of the total BG network.

Meanwhile, the department had recently announced that a remarkable scrap sale was earned in the FY worth a total of INR 2582 crore Data regarding the same was submitted until September 2022, and was said to be over 28 per cent more than INR 2003 crore in comparison to the previous FY of the same period. The department had set a target for earnings through sale of scraps which was fixed at INR 4400 crores.
