Central Railway’s Masjid railway station is one of the busiest stations in the city and witnesses the transportation of lakhs of citizens every day. However, soon the pedestrian bridge near Masjid railway station towards CSTM side will be demolished after it has been declared hazardous. The demolition will begin November 26 onwards and the Railways will rebuild a bridge accordingly.

As the process is supposed to be completed by December 6, the slow local train service between CSTM and Byculla is said to be shut down temporarily. Meanwhile, the officials had inspected the bridge on November 22, Thursday and the inspection resulted in the authorities deciding to demolish the bridge and rebuild it.

Railways have stated that the entire operation to demolish the bridge and rebuild it will at least take 45 days. Therefore, during the time period, the Railways has arranged a mega block of two to three hours during midnight, November 26 onwards. In the meantime, the electricity supply of railway overhead wire between CSTM and Sandhurst Road station will be shut down.

Alongside, there would be a block between CSTM and Byculla on both up as well down side and as a result, slow local service will be shut down for the time span and special fast trains will be run instead.
