Prime Minister Narendra Modi will launch the Amrit Bharat Station Upgradation Scheme, which will see the transformation of 15 suburban stations in the Mumbai region. Parel, Vikhroli and Kanjurmarg are the first three stations selected in the initial phase of the ambitious project.


Selected stations in the Mumbai division include Byculla, Chinchpokli, Paral, Matunga, Kurla, Vidyavihar, Vikhroli, Kanjurmarg, Mumbra, Diva, Shahad, Titwala, Igatpuri, Wadala Road and Sandhurst Road.


The soft upgrade of these stations will include various features, such as improvement of facades including entrance lobbies, development of circulation areas with landscaping, pedestrian walkways and parking, as well as widening of FOBs (foot over bridges) where possible.

According to the CR, the project includes provision of new toilet blocks, seating and furniture in waiting rooms and other offices. Water booths will be improved along with the increase in water supply and the drainage system will see significant improvements. In addition, there will be roof treatments for the existing buildings, interior improvements to waiting rooms and booking offices as well as lighting improvements throughout the stations.


The project also aims to increase accessibility by providing additional escalators and lifts, train indication boards, train information video display units and signage. Dustbins will be placed strategically to maintain cleanliness and hygiene


The Amrit Bharat Station Upgradation Scheme covers a total of 1,309 stations across the Indian Railway network, of which 76 stations are part of the Central Railway. Of these, 38 stations including three suburban stations Paral Vikhroli and Kanjurmarg in the Mumbai section of CR will start working from Sunday.


Vikhroli and Parel stations will receive INR 19 crore each for soft upgrades, while Kanjurmarg will get INR 27 crore for planned upgrades.
