The government is planning to consider the demand to give toll exemption to small vehicles in Thane. Maharashtra CM Eknath Shinde has ordered to give the statistics of vehicles with MH04 registration plying to and fro at Mumbai entrances. For the same, the vehicles will be filmed for the next 15 days.

The Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) president Raj Thackeray has made many demands regarding tolls, including toll exemption for small vehicles from Thane when entering Mumbai. The MNS has also started a movement for this. In this regard, on Thursday, Raj Thackeray along with office bearers met the Chief Minister at Sahyadri guest house. Citizens of Thane and surrounding areas have to come to Mumbai every day. Thackeray pointed out that road tax is increased every three years despite traffic jams at the toll booths. However, agreeing that Thanekars have to bear the burden of toll, the Chief Minister ordered the Corporation to film the five toll booths at the entrances of Mumbai for the next 15 days and submit the statistics of how many vehicles registered at the Thane Transport Office come and go every day. Raj Thackeray said after the meeting that the Chief Minister is positive on the road tax issue. It will be interesting to see what decision Shinde will take, who went to court against toll when he was an MLA.
