Work on the Janjira Jetty connecting the historic Murud-Janjira fort has finally begun to make it easier for tourists to reach it. The work costing INR 111 crore will be completed by Maharashtra Marine Board in June. So the journey to Janjira Fort will be easy from June 2024.

Janjira fort located in the sea is a centre of attraction for tourists and admirers and followers of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. Hence, a large number of tourists visit Janjira Fort every day. But at this time it becomes difficult for many people to reach the fort. Basically, the fort has to be reached by boat and since it does not have a jetty to go to the fort, it is impossible for many people to go down the steps of the fort from the boat. Due to waves and wind, the boat capsizes. In that case, children, old people have to exercise while getting off the boat. Considering this, there was a demand for constructing a jetty near the fort for many years. Finally accepting this demand, the Marine Board decided to build a jetty near the fort. According to this decision, under the Sagarmala scheme, the  approval of the Archaeological Department was taken by the Maritime Board.

Under Janjira Jetty work, a 250 metre long breakwater will be constructed along the lines of Mandwa Jetty near Janjira Fort. There will be a jetty next to this wall. This jetty will be constructed near the entrance of the fort facing the sea. 200 to 250 passengers can stand near this entrance at a time. Therefore, the seaward entrance has been selected by the Marine Board. The work of this jetty has started and the Maritime Board is planning to complete this work by June 2024. So it will finally be easy to get to Janjira Fort next year.
