In order to increase the number of passengers in Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) buses, the corporation had decided to reduce the fare prices. Accordingly, it was proposed that the minimum bus fare prices would be dropped to ₹5.

However, during the meeting, the BEST Corporation Committee rejected the proposal and therefore, there have been no changes in the bus fare prices.

Various Congress and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders brought ahead several issues with the proposal, due to which, BEST Committee President Anil Patankar decided to reject it. Accordingly, he has also called for a special meeting for the discussion of the same.

Currently, BEST has less than 25 lakh daily traveller which has seen a gradual decrease. Earlier, there were around 42 lakh daily travellers in 2018. Out of which, 55 per cent travellers only use the service to cover a distance of only five kilometers.
