After the success of three AC local trains running on Western Railway between Churchgate and Virar, Railways are all set to introduce its fourth AC local train from Sunday. Earlier, one could avail the service of AC local trains only on weekdays but now the railways are planning to operate it during the weekends as well.

A senior Western Railway (WR) official stated that as the rakes were not available, the AC local trains could not be available on weekends. The reason behind this was that every Saturday, after providing five days’ service, the running rake would go for maintenance on Saturday. If the recently arrived rake from the Chennai’s Integral Coach Factory (ICF) which is now in Virar car shed gets commissioned, then WR can operate AC services on weekends as well.

Notably, Central Railway (CR) is also planning to start an AC Local train running on the Harbour Line between Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) and Goregaon. The trains will be introduced after the tracks and the old bridges are inspected and trials are conducted. According to reports, the Central and Harbour railway's height of bridges has been an issue for the operation of AC trains as the rakes are taller than regular suburban trains.
