After the great response to the AC local trains between Churchgate and Virar on the Western line, Central Railway (CR) is all set to start an AC local train on the Harbour Line. The train will start on the route between Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) and Goregaon of the Harbour Line.

The trains will be introduced after the tracks and the old bridges are inspected and trials are conducted. According to reports, the Central and Harbour railway's height of bridges has been an issue for the operation of AC trains as the rakes are taller than regular suburban trains. CR had earlier written to the Integral Coach Factory in Chennai, manufacturing AC trains for Mumbai, to consider the problem. The CR further plans to operate AC trains on its mainline, between CSMT and Kalyan.

Notably, the coaches of the AC train will have LED-based coach identification systems (for alarm chain pulling and door malfunctioning) and emergency talk-back systems.
