The training and final selection process of about 3,116 trainee employees from various categories selected under the year 2016-17 and 2019 was temporarily interrupted. The training of all these candidates will resume from the stage where it was interrupted, said Adv. Anil Parab, Minister of Transport and President of the Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC).

The state government has issued a circular in this regard to the concerned departments. The Corporation's passenger services were severely disrupted due to the lockdown in the wake of COVID-19 pandemic. The transport body also suffered huge financial loss.

The accumulated loss of ST has gone beyond INR 5,000 crores. Considering the financial losses incurred by the corporation during the lockdown, the losses incurred by the corporation are estimated to increase by another INR 1,000 crores. Therefore, in order to increase the income, the fare will have to be increased for some time to come. However, the exact amount will be decided at a meeting of the board of directors. At the same time, the legal aspects are being examined before applying the 'flexible ticket price' in the ST.

Though the service of ST Corporation has now started with the full capacity, eyeing the forthcoming passenger rush season, the training of all the selected staff/officers will be commenced soon. This decision of the corporation has been welcomed by the trainee candidates.

The training and final selection process of about 3,116 trainee candidates from various categories selected under the years 2016-17 and 2019 was temporarily interrupted to curb the additional expenses. This included 2846 men, drivers and carriers, 161 women, drivers and carriers, 2 supervisors and 107 officers.

Moreover, in view of the rising prices of fuel, Parab stated that he is to make a decision with regards to the fare hike for the people using the services of MSRTC.
