Mumbai's Harbour Line station Reay Road is going to be the 1000th station in the country to have WiFi connectivity. Since January 2016, RailTel Corporation of India started providing high-speed WiFi service at railway stations.

Mumbai Central station was the first one to get this facility. In the two years, RailTel has completed 1000 stations. Free WiFi services to passengers are being provided under RailWire, the retail broadband initiative of RailTel. RailWire Wi-Fi will be available to any user who has a smartphone with a working mobile connection for Know Your Customer (KYC) considerations.

RailTel said in a statement that in February 2019 alone, the total number of unique users of station WiFi across the country was 1,15,77,141 and aggregated data consumption was 9065.27 TB.

As stated in Mumbai Mirror, Puneet Chawla, CMD/RailTel said that the project of providing WiFi at railway stations is a very challenging project for RailTel from many aspects. The large size of stations, various hindrances for the WiFi signal such as thick stone walls blocking coverage, every station design being unique the fitments needed customisation, huge footfalls, power outages, redevelopments of stations and ongoing construction activities at stations are a couple of noteworthy challenges RailTel faced while executing the project. But that did not stop them from achieving this unprecedented height and they are truly overwhelmed by the response they got from the users which pushed them further to bring RailWire WiFi at all the Railway stations of Indian Railways.
