Ganeshotsav 2020 is around the corner, and due to coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, festivities will be conducted in a simple manner, following the directives and guidelines issued by the government. However, officials, in a meeting held recently, announced an important decision which has been taken for the benefit for people who wish to travel to Alibag, this year for Ganesh Chaturthi.

This service from Bhaucha Dhakka to Mandwa was started in March 2020, however, due to the coronavirus lockdown, the service was shut down until further notice.

As per reports, the Ro-Ro ferry service between Mumbai and Alibag will resume from August 20, 2020, for a period of 11 days during the festival. The service will start from Bhaucha Dhakka to Mandwa and this move is said to benefit people during the 11-day festival. The service will take 45 minutes to reach Alibag instead of the three-hour journey by road.

Furthermore, it is said that the decreasing number of coronavirus (COVID-19) cases was also one of the reasons for the officials to begin the service. Currently, by road, the distance from Alibag to Mumbai is 96 km, which usually takes up to 3.5 hours. However, the motive of the service was to save travel time. Moreover, it can reduce fuel congestion and pollution by saving fuel, and passengers can choose from one of the three categories for their journey.

Under good weather, the ferry has the capacity to accommodate 1000 people, and under the bad weather, it can accommodate half the capacity, i.e. 500 people. Further, 200 cars can be accommodated under all the conditions.
