To avoid massive traffic stoppages at the Dahisar Toll Plaza, members of the Road March initiative have written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray seeking to shift the toll plaza.

The letter has also been sent to the MSRDC, MMRDA, the chief secretary, as well as commissioners and mayors of Mumbai and Mira-Bhayandar.

“Doctors travelling in their vehicles have complained about delays at critical times on social media,” the letter read.

People on the ground say that long lines of cars can be spotted on either side of the toll checkpoint at any given point in the daytime. This results in spending nearly 20 to 30 minutes on covering a 200-metre stretch.

This toll plaza sees high traffic volume since thousands of vehicles travel via this region each day including motorists arriving from Gujarat.

“This traffic jam causes air pollution as there is bound to be extremely high emission from hundreds of vehicles, including heavy vehicles...It also results in incessant honking causing noise pollution, directly impacting people’s health,” activist and member of Road March, Gopal Zhaveri said.

“We request authorities to visit the toll naka with the Road March team before April 14 to witness the daily suffering of people and discuss solutions,” Zhaveri added.

Though FASTag was expected to solve some of the traffic issues, the letter said that the idea is being improperly implemented citing incidents of motorists being charged twice.

Road March has said that it will take legal recourse to find a solution while demanding the toll plaza to be moved beyond Kashimira or Mira Road.
