Noise pollution has increased tremendously due to continuous blowing of high decibel horns. To put a stop to this, 'No Horn' awareness campaign has been started by Rotary Club of Thane North End in collaboration with Thane Municipal Regional Transport Department.

This campaign will be carried out between March 1 and May 31st. This campaign is not only for the road department but for all Thane residents. In this regard, Rotary Club of Thane North End will do the work of creating public awareness in coordination with residential area, educational forum, senior citizen association, Charanjit Singh Jas, the coordinator of this activity informed.

Additional Commissioner of Municipal Corporation (1) Sandeep Malvi, Regional Transport Officer Jayant Patil, Deputy Commissioner Angha Kadam, President of Rotary Club of North End Sandeep Paharia, Dilip Madiwale, Sanjeev Bramhe, Rahul Khandelwal, Kiran Zende etc. were present in this press conference.


“The horn is honked for no reason, and it annoys us. Some honk continuously even when the signal is red. However, as a responsible citizen, it is our duty to explain that the horn should be used responsibly and not incessantly. And for that public awareness is must,” said Thane Municipal Corporation Additional Commissioner (1) Sandeep Malvi.

He expressed the belief that the 'No Horn' campaign will be successful if a maximum number of citizens are involved. Meanwhile, Deputy Regional Transport Officer Jayant Patil informed that an awareness campaign will be conducted among the drivers of heavy vehicles.

Manisha Pradhan, Pollution Control Officer of Thane Municipal Corporation explained that 'no horn' is in our interest considering that the number of vehicles is increasing at the rate of five percent every year and the proportion of horn noise in noise pollution stands at 55 percent.
