On Thursday, September 5, Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray inaugurated the State Transport Corporation's first-ever electric bus, 'Shivai'. The bus will run on electricity and will ply between Dadar and Pune. The Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) is expecting the bus to be a fruitful investment. 

Earlier, MSRTC had invited tender for purchasing 150 electric buses. The process recently concluded. The electric bus has a seating capacity of 44 passengers and will be an air-conditioned ride. It is said that on a single charge, the bus will run for 300 km once and its running cost is being estimated to be less than that of Shivshahi and Shivneri. There are no details on the fare as yet.

The decision is said to be a boon amidst ever-increasing fuel prices. Therefore, the ST Corporation President and Transport Minister Divakar Raote said that this bus will assist the corporation in cutting down the cost of fuel.
