With an aim to make travelling in State Transport (ST) buses a comfortable affair for senior citizens, Maharashtra ST Corporation had introduced 'smart cards' earlier this year.

However, the initiative seems to have caused trouble for the senior citizens as they have complained that they are required to go to different bus depots in Mumbai to collect their smart cards. This initiative ensures that senior citizens only can be benefited from the smart cards. However, several people went on to make fake passes and presented to misuse the benefits offered to the senior citizens.

Close to 17 lakh passengers had applied for the senior citizen-oriented service but several passengers complained that they were unable to get a smart card despite successfully registering for the same.
