On December 21, the Maharashtra government announced seven-hour night curfew across all cities and municipal corporation areas in the state. The curfew will be in effect from 11 pm to 6 am. It was imposed from Tuesday, December 22, 2020, and will be applicable for 15 days until January 5, 2021.

However, the taxis, cars and auto-rickshaws are allowed to operate at night, provided they continue to follow the existing norms. This decision by the government was taken to avoid inconvenience to passengers as the offices and essential workers would be operating like before. As a result, passengers arriving in Mumbai from 11 pm to 6 am will be allowed to travel by rickshaw-taxi to reach home from the station. Moreover, the guidelines also stated that not more than five people can assemble outside during the curfew.

According to the taxi association, the administration has instructed to allow the transport of passengers in the essential services as before. There was a need to bring more clarity about train-bus passengers and essential service personnel, explained AL Quadros.

Meanwhile, the rickshaw-taxi fare hike has not been implemented, which has brought relief to the passengers. The proposal of rickshaw-taxis could not be discussed in the meeting of Mumbai Metropolitan Region Transport Authority (MMRDA) held on Tuesday, December 22. Therefore, it will be discussed in the next meeting and then a decision will be taken.
