Amidst the ongoing demand by the teachers for the allowance to travel on the Mumbai locals, Maharashtra School Education Minister Varsha Gaikwad informed that teachers living across Mumbai and adjoining areas will be allowed to commute on the suburban railways in the city.

However, only the teachers involved in the assessment process of the Class 10 examinations will be allowed to travel. Meanwhile, non-teaching staff involved in the assessment process will also be permitted.

Meanwhile, after several complaints to the State School Education department about schools suspending students because of their inability to pay the fees in view of the COVID-19 pandemic, Gaikwad informed, “Every child has a right to education and at the school of their choice. It has come to our notice, in the current extraordinary situation, more students are transferring out of schools due to financial reasons and some are being denied transfer/leaving certificates. Students whose TC/LC is delayed or are unable to produce it may be given admission on a provisional basis by the new school. While schooling till Class 8 already provides for this under the RTE, this rule will also apply to Class 9,10”.

On the other hand, the state government, in a statement issued on Monday, June 14, 2021, made it mandatory for teachers to attend schools. Staff teaching children between class 1-9 had to attend in 50 per cent capacity to conduct online classes, whereas staff teaching class 10 and junior college students, had to attend the school for assessment, so as to release the results on time.
